| Here’s a universal rule in the cargo transportation business: if the wheels of your vehicle move at all, then you need to secure the load. No exceptions. And the best way to get the job done is through the use of tie-down straps, commonly known simply as “tie-downs.” These systems are, in essence, high strength fabric webbing fitted with hardware that affixes to the floor or walls of a transport vehicle or trailer, with flexibility to loop over odd-shaped equipment or multiple boxes. Through hardware buckles and cams, tension can be applied to the tie down to secure the load against movement in any direction.
There are two predominant kinds of tie down systems: loop straps and two-piece straps. Loop straps involve a single length of webbing secured around the load, with endpoints that are brought together at the point of securing to a buckle affixed to the vehicle, with tension added to keep the load secure. Two-piece tie down straps are similar, except they work in tandem to surround the load from opposite directions, with a connection at the buckle.
